Vietnamese Sandwiches at Bánh Mì Très Bon – Richmond

Banh Mi Tres Bon - Richmond BC

Located in the Richmond’s Central at Garden City complex, Bánh Mì Très Bon doesn’t feel like the typical Vietnamese restaurant. The interior is bright and the decor is very modern with a mix of French and Vietnamese design. After hearing some good reviews, I visited Bánh Mì Très Bon with my relatives for some delicious phở and bánh mì sandwiches.

Before reading the rest of the post, here is a quick look at the dishes we ordered:

Phở Très Bon at Bánh Mì Très Bon

My uncle ordered the Phở Très Bon, a traditional Vietnamese noodle soup with beef tenderloin & meatballs. Their menu states that their beef is grass fed and hormone free. Plus, there is no MSG in their noodle soup. What’s not mentioned is that you have the option to get it with or without a piece of bone marrow. The soup has a wonderful aroma and looks so delicious that I regret not trying it. I’m definitely coming back for this phở next time!

Bánh Mì Trio – grilled lemongrass chicken sandwich

I ordered the Bánh Mì Trio because I couldn’t decide which sandwich to get. The trio contains 3 mini bánh mì sandwiches:

  • Bánh Mì Poulet – a grilled lemongrass chicken sandwich
  • Bánh Mì Jambon – a cold-cut sandwich with seasoned pork belly & Vietnamese ham
  • Bánh Mì Xíu Mại – a Vietnamese pork meatball sandwich

Of the three sandwiches, my favourite is the grilled lemongrass chicken. While it’s packed with flavour but not salty. The cold-cut sandwich was not bad, but flavour-wise, I prefer the chicken. I ate the pork meatball sandwich last and since the first two were so flavourful, this one seems very mild in comparison. So if you get this, maybe you should start with the pork meatball sandwich first.

One thing that I really loved about these bánh mì sandwiches is that the baguettes are super airy and light. I asked for jalapenos in my sandwiches, which is optional. I found the spiciness worked really well with the sandwiches and would recommend getting it if you can handle a bit of heat.

Final Thoughts on Bánh Mì Très Bon

I really enjoyed dining at Bánh Mì Très Bon. It’s a small and nicely decorated restaurant with a convenient location that has plenty of parking space. I’m already looking forward to my next visit to try some of their other dishes, the phở which I’ve missed, and maybe some of their cute character macarons!
